Shining 3D · Mid-range tier
Shining 3D Aoralscan Lync
Shining 3D's newest scanner and a deliberate subtraction rather than an addition. At 116 g it is among the lightest ever made, it runs off one Type-C cable, and it asks noticeably less of the computer than its own stablemates do.

Before tax and before the computer. Dealer discounts are large and seasonal. No price on file means we have no reliable street price there, not necessarily that it is unavailable.

What is good
- Among the lightest scanners made, at 116 g with a pen-like grip
- One Type-C cable, no power brick and no hub
- Runs on an RTX 2060, so the computer costs less than for most rivals
- Motion sensing allows contactless control during scanning, which helps with cross-infection
- Scan quality indicator greys out thin areas so you know where to rescan
- Scanbody library and bite heat map are included, plus a one day cloud design service
What is not
- Brand new, so there is no independent review and almost no install base
- No photogrammetry, unlike the Elite, so full-arch implant work is not its strength
- The catalogue lists Windows only, unlike the Aoralscan 3 and Elite which gained macOS support
- Deliberately fewer features than the Elite, which is the point but worth knowing

Clinicians who scan long lists and want the lightest handpiece they can get, and practices trying to keep the computer cost down.
Look elsewhere if
Full-arch implant cases, and anyone who wants a scanner with a track record behind it.
